The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, following hours of interrogation by the anti-graft agency.

Malami confirmed his release in a post on X on Saturday, saying he had been freed but is scheduled for further engagement with EFCC investigators.

The former minister addressed the ongoing probe, describing the allegations against him as “fabricated” and promising that the truth would eventually emerge.

“In line with my undertaking to keep Nigerians updated on my invitation by EFCC, I give glory to Allah for His divine intervention,” he said.

“The engagement was successful and I am eventually released while on an appointment for further engagement as the truth relating to the fabricated allegations against me continues to unfold.”

Malami was summoned by the EFCC through a letter dated November 24, signed by Sunday Ofen-Imu on behalf of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.

The commission has not disclosed the specific allegations for which Malami was invited.
