Terror in Kogi: Pastor, Wife, Others Kidnapped as Bandits Raid Church

Panic broke out in the Ejiba community, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Sunday when armed bandits invaded a newly established Cherubim and Seraphim Church and abducted the pastor, popularly known as Orlando, along with his wife.

The attack, which occurred mid-service, forced worshippers to scamper for safety as gunshots rang through the air. Residents said the gunmen stormed the area unexpectedly, plunging the quiet community into chaos.

A local resident described the incident as “terrifying,” noting that many people were still in shock. The exact number of abducted worshippers remained unclear as of press time.

The Kogi State Government said it had intensified surveillance and launched a manhunt for the attackers.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed that efforts were underway to secure the release of the victims.

According to him, “The authorities of Yagba West Local Government Council are working hard with the security agencies to ensure those kidnapped are rescued alive. The perpetrators, too, already know that Kogi will do everything possible to secure every one of its citizens abducted.”

Fanwo added that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo was closely coordinating security operations.

“We will keep the press updated on the operations,” he assured.

Fanwo urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

“We urge the citizens to be security-conscious and also report suspicious movements and faces to security agencies. When you see something, say something,” he said.

He also advised worship centres located on the outskirts to reconsider holding services in isolated or high-risk areas until security conditions improve.
